Could it have the worst premise for a movie, ever?

Given the history of movies, I know that’s a tall order. But it’s definitely something to which I’ve been giving some thought over the past weekend as I’ve been inundated with the ads for it.

Have men served as “maids-of-honor” in real-life? I’m sure they have somewhere. But I’m equally sure they’re: a) not guys who women might nickname ”McDreamy”, and b) never going to get the girl in the end. Honestly, if she even somewhat considered the guy to “have a pair” worthy of even minimal consideration as a future potential mate: 1) she would have at least taken him out for a test drive at some point which would have prohibited his inclusion in the wedding party, and 2) she wouldn’t have tried to emasculate him by naming him head bridesmaid rather than just inviting him to her wedding as a special guest.

By all rights this movie should do about $3 in box office and die an ignominious death, but with: 1) the general lack of competing “chick flicks” at the theaters, 2) the hunky appeal of Patrick Dempsey to women, and 3) a premise which might appeal to some women who would enjoy spending their weekend grinding the masculinity completely out of their significant other by forcing them to attend: it could wind up doing decent box office. By the end of the weekend, we’ll see whether these factors overwhelm the logic which should rightfully keep everyone away from watching it.
